Citizenship Award. Student-Athletes from around the SIAC, through their S.A.A.C. programs, competed all year long to acquire points by completing community service projects and other initiatives on their campus and in their community. “If you want to be the Best, then you must be prepared to do your Best and the results will reflect a true winner,” said SAAC Advisor, Karen Williams. “The road to winning the Citizenship award was defined in the beginning by our SAAC and we took the proper steps to assure our success.” Claflin scored 90 points to take home the prestigious award, and completed numerous events to impact their community including hosting a Homecoming Parade, Feed The Homeless Baskets, and the Sheltering Arms Community Engagement. The Claflin University SAAC program also raised $1500.00 for the SIAC and NCAA initiative program and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. S.A.A.C. programs received points in four areas: Public Service; Make-A-Wish Foundation; Visits to hospitals, schools, retirement facilities, etc.; and attendance at the SIAC S.A.A.C meetings.
