SIAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

ATLANTA (February 7, 2017) – Destiny Betts (Benedict) was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Kentucky State’s Brittani Rizz was tabbed Newcomer of the Week announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
 
Betts earned the honor by helping Benedict (15-7 overall, 11-1 SIAC) extend its winning streak to eight last week with an 82-78 win over Claflin on Jan. 31 Betts, a 6’2 senior forward from Halifax, Va. led all players in scoring (16) and rebounding (22) against the Lady Panthers. Her performance on Jan. 31 marked the fifth time this season she recorded 20 or more rebounds. Betts also added two assists and two steals in the win. Benedict will travel to face Claflin on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
 
Rizzi averaged 15 points per game last week for the Lady Thorobreds (9-12, 5-7). The 5’8 junior guard from Bedford, Ind. led all players in scoring (18) and 3-pointers (five) in a 61-58 win at home over Lane (Jan. 30). Against LeMoyne Owens College, Rizzi scored 12 points and added a steal for the Lady Thorobreds. She finished the week with 30 points, three rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Kentucky State will host Central State for its next contest on Feb. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
