SIAC Week 2 Football Players of the Week Announced

Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for the second installment of the 2013 SIAC Football Season as voted by the SIAC Sports Information Directors Association.
 
Kentucky State University junior running back Jacquise Lockett was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week, while SIAC Defensive Player of the Week was awarded to Tuskegee University sophomore linebacker Quavon Taylor.
 
Kentucky State University freshman linebacker Travon Spencer was named SIAC Newcomer of the Week. Benedict College junior Stevon Wilkerson and Tuskegee junior Kaleep Williams were named SIAC Lineman of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.
 
 Offensive Player of the Week
Jacquise Lockett, Running Back, Kentucky State
Class: Junior      Height: 6-2         Weight:  230      Hometown: Fulton, KY
 
The bruiser rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries to lead Kentucky State to a 38-7 victory over rival Central State. Lockett scored on the first play of the game from a 78 yard run from scrimmage. In two games, Lockett leads the SIAC in rushing with 352 yards (176.0 per game) and six touchdowns.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Quavon Taylor, Linebacker, Tuskegee
Class: Redshirt-Sophomore        Height: 6-1         Weight: 210       Hometown: Miami, FL
 
The All-SIAC preseason selection led Tuskegee's defense in tackles for the second week in a row,  as he finished with 11 tackles (7 solo, 8 assists) in the Golden Tigers 19-13 win over Albany State. Taylor also recorded a pass break up in the game. Taylor currently leads the SIAC in total tackles with 27.
 
 Newcomer of the Week
Travon Spencer, Linebacker, Kentucky State
Class: Freshman              Height: 6-2         Weight: 220       Hometown: Frankfort, KY
 
The true freshman led Kentucky State with a game-high nine total tackles, in addition to recording a tackle for loss and pass break up, while anchoring the Breds defense to a outstanding performance against Central State.
 
Offensive Lineman of the Week
Stevon Wilkerson, Offensive Tackle, Benedict
Class: Redshirt-Junior   Height: 6-1         Weight: 285       Hometown: Burlington, NC
 
The junior offensive tackle anchored Benedict's high powered offense in the Tigers 30-14 come-from-behind victory over Virginia State. Grading out 92 percent, with an additional five pancake blocks, Wilkerson helped Benedict gain 165 yards on the ground and 376 yards of total offense.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week
Kaleep Williams, WR, Tuskegee
Class: Junior      Height: 6-1         Weight: 211       Hometown: Sarasota, Fla.
 
While his team was trailing 13-6 to Albany State late in the third quarter, Williams blocked a Ryan Latner punt, which rolled out of bounds deep in the Golden Rams territory. The play ultimately set up a game-tying touchdown by Justin Nared a few plays later.
 
Other Notable Performances in Week 2
 
Marcus Graham, QB, Benedict College
The redshirt-sophomore completed 19 of 27 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns to lead Benedict to a 30-14 win over Virginia State at the New York Urban League Classic. Graham was also named MVP of the classic.
 
Marquel Gardner, WR, Tuskegee
Garner had a game-high six catches for 129 yards in Tuskegee's 19-13 win over Albany State. The 6-foot-3 target caught a 19-yard pass, which set up the game-winning score by running back Hoderick Lowe.
 
Chris Rini, QB, Lane
For the second consecutive week, Rini amassed over 300 yards of total offense. The senior went 25-of-32 passing for 270 yards and three touchdown passes. He also rushed for 73 yards on 13 carries in the Dragons 31-17 win over Morehouse.
 
Thomas Wolfe, DB, Fort Valley State
The senior All-SAIC defensive back had two interceptions and one pass breakup in the losing effort against Savannah State.
 
Terry Horton, LB, Kentucky State
The senior linebacker finished the game with eight tackles and had an interception return for 29-yards, which eventually set up a touchdown in KSU's win over Central State.
 
 
Josh Straughan, QB, Stillman
The sophomore completed 20-of-32 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers 27-6 win over Clark Atlanta.
 
Zachary Holley, K, Albany State
Holley connected on two field goals from 43 yards and 18 yards in the Golden Rams 19-13 loss to Tuskegee
 
Trevor Wylie, K, Tuskegee
Wylie went two for three on field goals and connected on 34 and 32 yards.
 
Bre'nard Williams, LB, Clark Atlanta
Williams had 11 solo tackles for the Panthers in the losing effort against Stillman.
 
Dante Warren, WR, Fort Valley State
Warren caught four passes for 80 yards and a touchdown against Savannah State.
