Former Morehouse Athletic Director and Basketball Coach, McAfee, Inducted into the NACDA Hall of Fame

ORLANDO--Former Morehouse College athletic director and legendary head basketball coach Arthur J. McAfee was inducted into the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame Friday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.

McAfee, a 1951 graduate of Wichita State University, became 10th member from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Prior to his arrival at Morehouse, McAfee held  brief head coaching post at Lane College, Mississippi Valley State University, Lincoln University (MO), and Bishop College (TX) before taking over the Maroon Tigers basketball program in 1965.

Seven years later, he would replaced another SIAC legend, B.T. Harvey, as the school's athletic director in 1972.

As the head coach of the men's basketball program, McAfee quickly turned Morehouse into a powerhouse. In over three decades of coaching, McAfee picked up 517 wins, which included 464 wins at Morehouse. His teams won three conference titles in six appearances, in addition to earning three NCAA playoff berths.

One of his most heralded groups was his squad in 1990. In that year,  the Maroon Tigers, led by eventual NBA player Harold Ellis, advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four. From 1988-1998 McAfee's teams won 197 games for a 64 percent winning percentage. Furthermore, he had four 20-plus win seasons and 11 players named to the All-SIAC Team. Most impressively, 95 percent of McAfee's players earned their respective college degrees from Morehouse.

In 1999, he was elected third vice president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and was in line to become president in 2001-02, before retiring instead prior to reaching the office.
McAfee was also inducted into the Wichita State University Hall of Fame in 2008.

Based out of Cleveland, Ohio, NACADA was founded in 1965. The organization boast a membership of 6100 represented colleges from membership within the NCAA, NAIA, plus junior and community colleges across the nation.
