SIAC Softball: Week 6 Players of the Week Honors Announced
Atlanta, GA—Fort Valley State senior Jessica Buchanan and Miles College junior Briana Barrentine are the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Softball Co-Players of the Week for the sixth installment of the regular season, while Stillman College junior Kristina Kelly is the SIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Buchanan, a senior from Bowden, GA, was named MVP of the East Division after leading the Lady Wildcats to a 4-2 record at the SIAC Crossover tournament over the weekend. Behind her bat and solid defense from the catching position, she was able to lead Fort Valley to victories over Lane, LeMoyne-Owen, Kentucky State, and Tuskegee.
Barrentine, a junior from Oakman, AL, had an outstanding week as she led the defending Conference Champions, Miles, to six conference wins over Albany State, Clark Atlanta, Claflin, Fort Valley State, Benedict, and Paine at the 2013 SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament. The first baseman was also named MVP for the Western Division of the crossover tournament after driving in six RBI’s off six hits, with two home runs, and eight runs scored.
Kelly had a perfect record of 4-0 during the SIAC Crossover Tournament in Jasper, AL over the weekend. The junior had 23.0 innings of work and struck out 22 batters, while walking only four for a 2.74 ERA.

Michelle Gray, Senior, Stillman
Position: LF Height: 5-5 Hometown: Northport, AL
Gray batted .450, hit two home runs and 2 doubles, while scoring nine runs and driving in 11 RBIs during the SIAC Crossover Tournament last week.
Alia Williams, Junior, Clark Atlanta
Position: CF Height: 5-7 Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Accomplishment: Had nine RBIs, scored seven runs, and recorded three doubles and a triples to lead CAU to a 3-3 record at the SIAC Crossover tournament.
Markea Sheppard, Sophomore, Claflin
Position: 3B Height: 5-2 Hometown: Covington, GA
Accomplishment: The sophomore went 12-for-28, hitting a home run, double, and triple, while leading Claflin to a 4-2 record at the SIAC Crossover over the weekend. Sheppard, currently on a 17 game hitting streak, had eight runs and seven RBI’s in six games for Claflin.
Kristina Kelly, Junior, Stillman
Position: Pitcher Height: 5-4 Hometown: Tuscaloosa, AL
Accomplishment: Had perfect record of 4-0 , pitching three complete games, in 23.0 innings of work. The junior struck out 22 batters, while walking only four for a 2.74 ERA.
