ATLANTA -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently named All-Region honorees for outdoor track & field in Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) was well represented with 74 student-athletes from the conference receiving honors. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region’s top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2012 outdoor season.
The SIAC totaled 120 All-South Region selections with 65 women selections and 55 men selections. 42 different female athletes earned all-region honors led by Stillman College’s Janae Jones and Fort Valley State University’s Portia Wilson while 32 different male athletes received honors led by Albany State University’s Isaiah Leggette.
Jones and Wilson each received four all-region selections with both earning honors in the 200 meter dash, 4x100m relay, and the 4x400m relay while Jones earned all-region in the 400 meters and Wilson in the 100 meter dash. Leggette led the men with four all-region selections, including in the high jump, long jump, triple jump, and the 4x100m relay.
Albany State University led the SIAC with 36 total all-region selections, including 19 women’s selections and 17 men’s selections both of which were tops in the conference.
A total of 1,274 athletes received 1,854 USTFCCCA All-Region nods. The USTFCCCA regions match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.
