Fifteen SIAC Standouts Selected to 2011 Daktronics All-Region Football Team
ATLANTA—The 2012 Daktronics All-Super Region Two football team was announced and 15 players from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) were named on the team.
Continuing his breakout season, SIAC Player of the Year Derrick Washington was selected as the 2012 Daktronics Region Two Offensive Player of the Year for Super Region Two.
The 6-foot 210-pound running back from Tuskegee, also named the SIAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the conference with 1,494 yards and 14 touchdowns, while leading Tuskegee to a 10-1 record, West Division Title, and SIAC Football Championship. Washington, a senior transfer from University of Missouri, was also a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy.
Joining Washington on the All-Region First Team are SIAC Co-Defensive Players of the Year Clark Atlanta’s Vauchard Goodridge and Fort Valley State’s LeRon Furr, along with Albany State defensive back Dexter Moody, Lane linebacker Corey Jones, Fort Valley punter Justin Rosenbaum, and Tuskegee defensive back William Buford.
Leading the way on the All-Region Second team, a group comprised of eight selections, is Morehouse senior running back David Carter. The 2011 SIAC offensive player of the Year battled back from a hamstring injury to earn his third consecutive All-SIAC First Team honors. He is joined on offense by Miles quarterback David Thomas, Morehouse return specialist Thomas Williams, Stillman wide receiver Damien Ford, and Tuskegee offensive lineman Chris Tolbert and Devonte Jones.
Kentucky State defensive lineman Carlos Ware and Stillman defensive back Carlos Wilson were the selections on the Second Team Defense.
Corey Johnson, a senior linebacker at Catawba, was selected as the region’s Defensive Player of the Year.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA), with the online nomination and voting process powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
