SIAC Announces First Weekly Volleyball Honors of 2010

Stillman's McKinnis named Player of the Week; Kentucky State's Stewart named Setter of the Week; Paine's Kearse named Defender of the Week

Atlanta, GA—Stillman outside hitter Jamila McKinnis has been selected as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week after being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Christian Brothers Invitational Tournament. Kentucky State’s Brittany Stewart was selected as the Setter of the Week while Paine outsider hitter/defensive specialist Janae’ Kearse was selected as Defender of the Week.

 

McKinnis, a junior from Mobile, AL, posted a .250 hitting percentage and 43 kills for the Lady Tigers in their four games during the tournament.

In two matches on Saturday, McKinnis put up some impressive numbers including a triple double (12 kills, 10 assist, and 12 digs) against Ouachita Baptist and a double-double (17 kills and 12 digs) against Illinois-Springfield.

Stewart, a junior from East St. Louis, IL, had 34 assists and a .312 set percentage in 109 sets. She also served at .952.

Her efforts helped lead the Thorobrettes to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22) victory over the University of the Cumberlands.

Kearse, a junior from Orangeburg, SC, posted 36 digs and 14 kills in matches against Fort Valley State and Brewton Parker. She also had 3 assists, a block, and a service ace.

She helped lead Paine to a 3-0 win over Fort Valley State in the Paine College Invitational.
