Atlanta, GA—Five SIAC standouts were named to the D2PRODAY.com Preseason All-American team led by Albany State safety Mario Fuller, who was the only first team selection, and Clark Atlanta running back Winston Thompson, the conference’s lone second team selection.Players making the third team include Kentucky State running back Anthony Boykin and defensive backs Marquez Gibson and Justin Hill of Benedict and Miles, respectively.
Fuller, a senior from Jesup, GA, lead Albany State with 67 tackles and is one of the top returning players in the SIAC. A two-time All-SIAC selection, Fuller has received several accolades this offseason including BASN/Boxtorow.com first team All-American and CDS Division II All-American as an honorable mention.
Thompson, a 5-9 senior from Miami, Florida, returns after rushing for nearly 1,100 yards in 2009. The two-time All-SIAC selection is the SIAC’s leading returning rusher at 120 yards per game. He was also named to the CDS Division II All-American team as an honorable mention and was named to the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) 2011 HBCU NFL Draft Watch List.
KSU’s Boykins is one of the SIAC’s top returning backs after rushing for 1,031 yards on 202 carries in 2009 on his way to all-conference honors. Gibson, a senior, lead the SIAC in passes defended with 15 while Hill, also a senior, tied for the league lead with five interceptions.
D2ProDay.com is the nation’s first and only Division II pro day and combine for seniors. The selection board is made up of pro scouts, NFL and CFL agents, as well as former NFL coaches and players. The preseason All-American teams represent the best Division II players in the nation.
