The Albany State University women’s sports teams captured the SIAC Commissioner’s All-Sports Award for the 2009-2010 seasons. This makes the seventh consecutive year that the Albany State women have won this award,
meaning they’ve been the recipient of this honor every year since it was re-established in 2003-2004.
Albany State tallied 34 points after winning conference titles in volleyball, softball, and tennis while finishing third in track & field. This was the Lady Rams’ 9th consecutive SIAC volleyball title and their first ever SIAC tennis title.
Benedict College women came in a close second with 25 points after winning their first conference title in basketball since 2007. The Lady Tigers also finished second in track & field while also placing third in volleyball and tennis.
Finishing right behind Benedict College was the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats, who came in third place with 24 points. The Lady Wildcats held off Benedict and perennial power Albany State to take this year’s track & field conference title while also finishing second in cross country and softball. Kentucky State (15), Clark Atlanta (10), Tuskegee (7), and Stillman (4) also scored points in this year’s standings.
The prestigious Commissioner’s All-Sports Trophy is presented to the men’s and women’s athletic department who have excelled athletically within the conference. A scoring system of 10 points for 1st place or conference titles, 7 points for 2nd place, and 4 points for 3rd place is used to determine the All-Sports Standings for the SIAC 13-member institutions. Football is determined by their finish in the regular season. The Men’s & Women’s Basketball tournament is not double elimination and does not offer a consolation game.
