FVSU Head Coach Lonnie Bartley

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lonnie Bartley has been selected as the 2009-2010 Russell Athletic/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Region Five co-Coach of the Year.  Coach Bartley shares the honor with Arkansas Tech Head Coach Dave Wilbers.

Bartley earned the co-Coach of the Year honor after leading the Lady Wildcats to a 26-1 regular season record (the best in the history of FVSU Women’s Basketball) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Regular Season Championship.  The Lady Wildcats finished the year with a 26-3 record.

The winners of the Russell Athletics/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Coach of the Year are selected by coaches within their region.  Once a coach has been selected as a Regional Coach of the Year, he or she advances as a finalist to the national level which includes other Coaches of the Year from their region.

This year’s Russell Athletic/WBCA National Coach of the Year for each division will be honored at the Russell Athletic/WBCA National Coach of the Year Luncheon on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. (CST) at the Marriott RiverCenter in San Antonio, Texas. The luncheon is part of the WBCA National Convention and is held in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
