Columbus, GA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) have announced that Fort Valley State University and Saint Augustine’s College have been selected to participate in the 12th Pioneer Bowl. The game will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at A.J. McClung Stadium in Columbus, GA at 1:00pm (EST).
The Saint Augustine’s College Falcons, led by Head Coach Michael Costa, finished second in the CIAA Southern Division with an 8-2 overall record, 6-1 in conference play. The Falcons finished the season ranked 9th in the NCAA D-II Super Regional One. The Fort Valley State Wildcats, led by Head Coach Donald Pittman, finished second in the SIAC with an 8-2 overall record, 7-2 in conference play. The Wildcats currently rank #22 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches’ Poll. Both Fort Valley State and Saint Augustine’s will be making their first appearance in the Pioneer Bowl.
Started in 1997, the Pioneer Bowl is an NCAA sanctioned bowl game involving the SIAC and the CIAA. It is the only sanctioned bowl game involving HBCU athletic conferences.
